Tom Parker Coaching - Kayak Coaching and Guiding

Ecuador 2008

Ecuador's whitewater is some of the most stunning - but accessible - in the world. If you've got a sense of adventure then Ecuadorian paddling is the perfect tonic for the UK winter, offering reliable warm weather boating when Britain's at its grimmest.

Our guided trip will take you to the two main boating centres in Ecuador. The high Quijos valley is like nowhere else on earth, with condors circling above your head and extinct volcanoes forming your horizon. The headwaters of the Rio Napo, near Tena, will blow you away with world class whitewater in lush tropical rainforest.

Our guided trip takes all the hassle, unpredictability and guesswork out of paddling in South America. We'll organise your accommodation, airport shuttles, food, internal transport connections and, of course, river guiding down some of the world's best whitewater. For a snap shot of the trip, have a look at our video from 2006…

Sample programme:
Day 1: Arrive in Quito - Relax at the Crossroads Hostel in the Mariscal and recover after your long journey. This is when you meet the rest of the team.

Day 2: Bus ride to Tena - Experience Ecuador’s bus service at it’s best! When you arrive in Tena you can while away the afternoon swinging in your hammock as you stare out across the jungle. Spend the evening at the Welcome Break hostel.

Day 3: Warm-up - After a group discussion about personal aims we’ll head out for a warm up on one of the local runs. Nothing too testing, it'll be a great chance to get into the whitewater mood and let the whole group paddle together.

Days 4 – 7: Hit the rivers - At last, it's time to tackle some of the more challenging runs through lush tropical jungle, all with expert river guidance.

Day 8: Bus ride to Tena - Climb the hills into Baeza for a change of scenery.

Days 9 – 13: Hit the rivers - The runs in the Quijos valley offer a very different style of paddling to the jungle runs. High mountain valleys, eddyhopping boulder gardens and scenery you can't match.

Day 14: Bus ride to Quito - Get ready to fly out.
Of course, this programme is provisional and we'll change it depending on how well you're paddling, water levels and, of course, what you want to get out of the trip.
